What's in the Tools & Swag collection?
Everything you didn't know you needed for your kitchen and beyond. We're talking the Tadka Spoon (pre-seasoned and ready to bloom spices like a pro), the Roshni Mortar and Pestle cast in pure bronze, a chai strainer, a hand-painted ceramic spice pinch pot, upcycled stainless steel spice spoons, and our beautiful dish towels. Plus, our cookbook, a drinks zine, and some apparel for when you want to wear your spice obsession on your sleeve. Literally.
Are these tools actually useful, or just nice to look at?
Both, and we refuse to compromise on either. Every tool we carry is something we use ourselves and genuinely believe makes cooking better. The Tadka Spoon is built for blooming spices in hot oil, which is one of the most foundational moves in South Asian cooking. The mortar and pestle is made from pure bronze and built to last. The chai strainer is perfectly sized for your daily cup. These aren't decorative objects that live in a drawer. They're the kind of things you reach for every single day.
Do these make good gifts?
Honestly, some of the best gifts we've ever seen leave our warehouse. A mortar and pestle, a beautifully illustrated dish towel set, a signed copy of our cookbook, a full chai essentials kit — these are the kinds of things people don't always buy for themselves but absolutely light up when they receive. If you're shopping for someone who loves cooking, loves South Asian food, or just appreciates beautiful, functional objects, you're in the right place.
What is the Tadka Spoon and why do I need one?
Tadka is the technique of blooming whole spices in hot oil or ghee to release their full aroma before adding them to a dish, and it is genuinely one of the most transformative things you can learn to do in the kitchen. Our Tadka Spoon is cast iron, pre-seasoned, and designed specifically for this technique, though it also happens to be perfect for frying eggs, sauteing garlic, and a dozen other things. Once you use it, your regular spoon will feel like a downgrade.
Is the cookbook worth it if I already cook with your spices?
Especially if you already cook with our spices. The Diaspora Spice Co. Cookbook has 85+ recipes developed directly from our farm partners across India and Sri Lanka, and it goes deep on how to actually use spices with confidence, not just follow a recipe. It's part cookbook, part field guide, part love letter to South Asian food and the farmers behind it. Whether you're an experienced home cook or someone still figuring things out, it will genuinely change how you think about flavor.
