Kaveri Vanilla Beans are grown along the river basin of South India and are among the most plump, aromatic, flavor-forward vanilla beans you will ever bake with. Rich, floral, and layered in a way that vanilla extract simply cannot replicate, each tin holds three beans ready to be split, scraped, and folded into ice cream, cakes, custards, or your own homemade vanilla extract. Baking just got significantly better.

"The smell is so strong that my cutting board still smells vanilla after three days and 2-3 washing. I love it!"

"This vanilla is the most fragrant and delicious ever!!! The pods are super plump too."

Cooking tips

How to remove the vanilla seeds

Using a paring knife, split the vanilla pod in half lengthwise, then using the tip of the knife scrape the seeds out and add them to your recipe.

Don’t throw away that vanilla pod!

Once you’ve scraped the pod, add it to a container of granulated sugar and it will infuse it with its aroma.

How to make DIY vanilla extract

Split 3–4 vanilla pods down the middle lengthwise, place them in a bottle or jar, cover with 8 ounces vodka, and let sit for at least 2 months, giving it a shake every couple weeks.

Plump, sweet, and intensely aromatic, Kaveri Vanilla comes from the foothills of Kumily, Kerala, where it is grown by over 100 smallholder farmers. Each farm grows a few precious vanilla vines to add value beyond their coconut, coffee, and black pepper crops.

The quality of vanilla comes down to two things: the pods, and the quality of the curing, which takes several months. Our juicy pods are sourced by Reginold Kavukattu and his family, who have been curing vanilla using their secret family technique for three generations.

story_image

There are three strains of vanilla across the world. Ours comes from the Madagascar strain, prized for their high vanillin content, the plant compound that gives vanilla its signature flavor.

story_image

Vanilla “beans” are the cured seedpods of the tropical vanilla orchid: a rare and delicate plant whose flowers are individually hand-pollinated to bear fruit, due to the near-extinction of its primary natural pollinator, the melipona bee. Each bloom lasts only a few days, which means the window for pollination is extremely short.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are whole spices?

Whole spices are spices that have not been ground or processed. These whole spices retain their natural oils and flavor, making them more aromatic and long-lasting compared to pre-ground options.

Why should I use whole spices instead of ground spices?

Whole spices retain volatile oils, which means you get more flavor, freshness and aroma! Using fresh whole spices and grinding them when needed helps preserve their full aroma and taste.

How do I use whole spices in cooking?

Whole spices can be toasted, ground, or infused into dishes depending on the recipe. They are commonly used in techniques like tempering, making them essential for spice tempering and traditional cooking methods.

Are whole spices suitable for beginners?

Cooking with whole spices may seem intimidating, but that's far from the truth. Beginners can easily use whole spices, with just a little guidance. Filter our recipe section by spice to find recipes you can add to your everyday rotation!

How should I store whole spices?

Whole spices should be stored in airtight containers away from heat and light. Proper storage helps maintain the quality of fresh spices and ensures they stay flavorful for a longer time.
